Military Service

                          After completing 17 weeks of Basic Training at the Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia (1943).



Taken in Nancy, France, after I'd come off a very dangerous

  patrol in which the sergeant who was leading won the Silver






Word trickled down that the war was over. We didn't really believe it, and worried that somebody on theJCwarend1.jpg (72822 bytes) other side might not have heard!!

With my B.A.R. on outpost in Oberhoffen, Germany. The view covered a street to the end of town and the hills beyond. Anything moving was enemy. A short time later, we were relieved; I was discovered to have pneumonia and sent to a hospital in Nancy, France. (Click to enlarge.)
